Judge Orientation
Sign in, welcome and refreshments
- 1. Introduce fair organizers and acknowledge new website!!
- 2. Review judging materials and schedule
- 3. Project location, and junior high/senior high breakdown
- 4. Review general category and special award judging
- 5. Discuss the limits of first place awards, the MAS state science fair and the ISEF fair
- 6. Review group projects, no shows and other changes listed on the chalkboard
- 7. Explain what happens after judging is completed, what to turn in, recycle and discard.
- 8. Points of clarification or emphasis:
- 1. Describe responsibilities of a judge and category choices, new participants, etc.
- 2. Odd project numbers are judges first (9:00-10:30 am) and even project numbers are judged second (10:30-12:00 pm).
- 3. There are many judges, respect everyone's time limit.
- 4. Be kind, these are young students, not professional colleagues. Help them through it if they are struggling.
- 5. Please don?t get in a philosophical discussion with the other judges in front of any students, it rattles them to no end.
- 6. Junior High is 7-8th grade and Senior High is 9-12th grade.
- 7. MAS State Science Fair eligibility is for 7-12th grade.
- 8. Only Senior High students qualify for the ISEF award.
- 9. If you have a lot of projects to judge, divide and conquer.
- 10. Please help the ISEF judges by noting quality projects. They have to look at all Senior High participants.
- 11. If you are a new judge, you will be put with a team of experienced judges.
- 12. Check the board routinely for changes and notes from the Judge Chair.
- 13. Have fun, be a great role model.
